In OB, ants love moisture and easy food, so you’ll see them around kitchens, outdoor dining areas, pet bowls, and trash bins. They also travel fast along cracks in concrete, stucco edges, and landscaping borders, which is why treating the trail alone usually isn’t enough.

Roaches tend to show up more in apartments, condos, and older buildings where plumbing runs are shared. They thrive in damp, protected spots like under sinks, behind fridges, laundry areas, and garages, especially when the marine layer keeps things humid.

OB is very dog-friendly, so fleas can become an issue in homes with pets and in shared outdoor areas (yards, patios, side yards). The goal is stopping the current bite cycle and setting up prevention so they don’t keep reappearing.

Rats and mice squeeze in through small gaps around garage doors, vents, pipes, and rooflines. In Ocean Beach, they also move through alleys, dense landscaping, and along fence lines. Common signs: droppings, scratching at night, gnaw marks, and activity near trash or stored items.

Spiders hang out where they can hunt, so you’ll often see them around garages, storage corners, patio furniture, and exterior lights. If spiders are showing up a lot, it usually means there’s a consistent insect food source nearby.

Wasps often build in eaves, patio covers, fences, sheds, and small exterior gaps. Coastal weather can keep them active longer, so it’s usually best to handle nests early before numbers ramp up.

Termites are a common concern across San Diego, and Ocean Beach is no exception. Older wood structures, fences, and framing can be vulnerable, especially when moisture is present. Watch for mud tubes, discarded wings near windows, or wood that sounds hollow.
